THE TIME IS NOW!!!
This week our group hosted a strategy meeting to evaluate
where the GLBT community can be most effective in efforts to "flip the NYS
senate". We were joined by representatives and members of the GLBT
Democrats of Suffolk and the Human Rights Campaign. We have formed a
Long Island GLBT Coalition and will be doing "Gay Night"
on 5 Thursdays, from 6-9 pm, at Nassau Democratic County
Headquarters in Carle Place. We have a great opportunity to be more
visible now than ever as a group.
We will be phone banking on behalf of Kristen McElroy, candidate in the 6th Senate District to unseat Kemp
Hannon. Across the state, she is thought to be one of the most viable
candidates. It doesn't matter if you do not live in her district, when
she gets to Albany and votes on legislation that the Assembly and Governor
support, such as MARRIAGE EQUALITY, GENDA, and DASA, it becomes the
law of the land. There's much to be done in addition to phones that will
require lots of hands. We need to know in advance who will be there as
food will be provided for a brief supper break. Please check your
calendars and reply by e-mail ASAP for this Thursday, September 25th. The
other dates are October 2nd, 16th, 23rd, and 30th. You can sign up
for them now also.
Volunteers are also needed to work with the NYS
Senate campaign of Matt Meng in the 5th Senate District, challenger to Carl
Marcellino; and, of course, we will volunteer in the reelection efforts of
our staunch supporter, Craig Johnson, in the 7th Senate District. Craig
has been there for us in the County Legislature and now in the NYS
Senate. We MUST be there for him!
Together, as a united group, our impact will be more
visible. We can make a difference and THE TIME IS NOW!!!

has been active on many civic associations, and is supportive of our
issues. His other issues include the
economy, taxes, energy and environment.

Kristen
reached out to us to discuss our issues, which she supports. She spoke at our fund-raiser, and is

Craig Johnson (incumbent), 7th Senate
District:
Craig
was a stauch supporter of a Domestic Partnership Registry in Nassau County,
although he was blind sided by two of his democratic colleages. He is pro gay marriage, and definitely
supportive of our issues. He can be

Carol A. Gordon, 8th Senate
District:
Carol
has long been a supporter of ours; she has attended our fund-raisers, and
helped us carry the banner in the Huntington Gay Pride Parade. Her issues are property taxes, the housing

Roy Simon, 9th Senate District
Roy is
an ethics professor, and is interested in tax reduction with an alternative
plan to invest in education, public transportation, renewable energy, and in
